Dear Practice Space Community,
As our pilot year is drawing to a close, we have decided to put the Incubator and Residency programs on hold in order to apply lessons learned. Our initial business model relied too heavily on Resident tuition, which made our program too exclusive and created a difficult working situation for participants.
Although we are taking some time to restructure our program, the work that’s taken place in the first year has been amazing. We were able to help six entrepreneurs/cultivators flesh out feasible and inspiring concepts for their projects in Detroit. This program, which continues to attract interest from entrepreneurs, has struck a real chord. By creating a design and storytelling based methodology that focuses on both architectural and business components of a vision, our program allows people to push the boundaries and pursue projects only possible in places like Detroit. And, while the Residency program needs updating, it’s done a good job of giving young movers and shakers a chance to get their hands dirty on real projects. We owe a big thanks to all of the Project Leaders, Residents, Advisors, and everyone else who has made this first year happen.
We’ll be back with a new model for the program. In the meantime, we’re still cultivating this community and doing work, helping inject old spaces with new ideas. Stay tuned and let us know if you have any questions.
